A 45-year-old
widow, Mrs.
Bola Oladeji, an Accounts Clerk with Biokun Community Grammar School, Amuloko, Ibadan, has emerged a second winner of N1 million in the ongoing Seven-Up Bottling Company Plc consumer promotion cutting across the country.
Narrating how God put a smile on her lips, Mrs. Oladeji, who told the Nigerian Tribune that her husband had died since 1997, and leaving behind four children in her care, stated that “I had gone to the Gbagi Market on Saturday, October 24, 2009, to buy a pair of sandals for one of my children, and had developed headache before leaving home for the market. I had taken my drugs along with me, and so when I saw a little kid hawking soft drinks, I asked him to give me a bottle of Mountain Dew, since I am used to taking drugs with either 7-Up or Mountain Dew in place of water.
“After I had paid for the drink and opened it, the little kid asked me to give him the crown cork but I refused. I recollected one of my children had told me that 7-Up is having its promotion, and should not throw away any crown cork if I bought its brands but should peel the liner of the crown cork to know if I won.
“And so, after I had used the drugs with the Mountain Dew, I withdrew to a corner of the market where I carefully peeled the liner of the crown cork of the Mountain Dew. What I saw was unexpected N1,000,000 on the crown cork. On seeing this, I left the market immediately for the Ibadan 7-Up Bottling Company Plc plant at Oluyole Estate where the crown cork was confirmed by the management as real.”
When the Nigerian Tribune asked the mother of three girls and a boy what plans she had for the money, she said, “I have a parcel of land that I have not been able to develop due to the burden of raising my children. Therefore, I intend to use the part of the money to raise a block of two flats and to invest the balance sum in a small-scale business.”
Asked if she ever had faith in 7-Up’s promotions, Mrs. Oladeji said, “in the past I had watched winners in 7-Up’s promo on TV being presented with various prizes, so I believe so much in its promotions.”
