Police commence investigations into Togolese’ death

POLICE in Lagos State have begun investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death of a Togolese lady, who was found dead in a hotel room around Alaba Rago area of the state, on Saturday.

The deceased, Harieta Seidu, aged 20, was, in the early hours of Saturday, found dead in one of the rooms at Akiahja Hotel in Alaba Rago.

Nigerian Tribune, however, gathered that preliminary investigations by the police revealed that her death might have occurred as a result of complication arising from abortion.

The deceased Togolese had, on the night before the incident , alongside his boyfriend identified simply as Gambo Musa, who had since been arrested, lodged at the hotel.

The manager of the hotel, Reuben Ape, said cry from the deceased around 3.00 a.m on Saturday woke up the management and the occupants of the hotel.

The hotel manager further stated that on getting to the room, it was discovered that the female occupant was ill and in pains, adding that she died before she could be rushed to a nearby hospital.

Nigerian Tribune was informed by a police source, who pleaded anonymity, that preliminary investigations by the police revealed that the lady was pregnant and she must have undergone abortion.

Meanwhile, the boyfriend, in his report, claimed that he met the lady 15 days before the incident, adding that he was not responsible for any abortion.

The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Frank Mba , while confirming the reports to the Nigerian Tribune, said the remains of the deceased had been deposited at Igando General Hospital for autopsy.
