THE Lagos State government has tasked engineers in the state public service on the need to attach seriousness to the delivery of the promise of a rewarding future to the citizens of the state.

The Director-General, Public Service Staff Development Centre (PSSDC), Mrs. Olubunmi Fabanwo, while speaking at the opening ceremony of the five-day course on Effective Supervision and Management of Engineering Projects, on Monday, said engineers in the state should complement the efforts of Governor Babatunde Fashola to make Lagos a model mega-city in Africa.

According to her, the challenges of development in Lagos State, with a growing population of 18 million and annual growth rate of three per cent, was enormous and required the services of seasoned engineers who must contribute to the provision of infrastructure for the populace.

She noted that the vision of model mega-city could only be achieved if there were professional engineers, who rendered qualitative services and deployed their expertise to impact positively on the citizens of the state.

Mrs. Fabanwo also noted that in recognition of this fact, the Lagos State government had embarked on training of all its personnel, adding that the course was designed to enable participating engineers to be informed on supervision and management of engineering projects.
