Zain Moves To Woo Campus Socialites...In The Like Of 9ice, The ‘Face Of Zain’

Students dreaming of becoming super stars may soon find their ways to stardom, as Nigeria’s popular Telecommunication company, Zain, has started moves to raise entertainment ambassadors amongst campus socialities to further popularise its network.

This may see some of them playing side by side the showbiz rave of the moment, 9ice (Abolore Akande), during stage shows on their campuses.

This, aside being a way of popularising Zain network among students, also falls in line with Zain’s philosophy of encouraging young talents, especially on campuses to develop themselves.

Courtesy of Zain network, 9ice had on June 27, 2008 performed, for the first time, in London to a crowd of over 40,000 people at a Zain Group- sponsored event, celebrating the life and achievements of Nelson Mandela who recently clocked 90.

Zain, currently respresented in many campuses in the country, is already winning the hearts of many students who will want to make their mark in the entertainment world.

Popular among these categories of students are those of the University of Lagos, University of Abuja ,campus, University of Calabar among others which parade a high level of socialites within its studentry.

Authority, UNILAG Students Parley At Variety Show

Students of the premier university, University of Ibadan, have condemned the discrepancy between the former school fees schedule and the new one released by the authorities of the institution recently.

The students are groaning over the hardships the new fee schedule would cause, charging the Students’Union Transition Committee (SUTC), to wake up from its slumber and fight for the students of the institution.

They said since the disbandment of the Students’ Union Government (SUG) almost ten years ago, the SUTC has been a toothless bulldog dancing to the tune of the management without concrete achievements in students’ welfare.

However, the Public Relations Officer, SUTC, Mr Gbemileke Alagbe, refuting this allegation said a bulletin had been issued and a letter written to the management stating their opposition to the hike and call for reduction.

But another student leader in the institution, the General Secretary, Association of Faculty of Arts Students (AFAS), Mr. Obajuluwa Olaposi, said students’ representatives must not fight for personal interests as he encouraged advocacy geared towards the general good of students.

During the meeting between the SUTC and management of the institution , the latter revealed that such increment was towards provision of adequate facilities, developmental projects, prevention of huge loss in providing basic infrastructure and making life better for the staff and students alike, on campus.

Pointing out an instance of discrepancy, the former fee schedule totalled N11900 showed N12850 on the new schedule showing further increase for Faculty of Arts’ students in 200 and 300 levels.
