INCREDIBLE: My Father Is Responsible For My Baby - Daughter Cries Out; Devil Pushed Me To Do It - Father

It was a case of incest taken too far when a 36-year- old father impregnated his 16-year-old daughter, leading to a bouncing baby boy. The man, Olaolu Adeleke, who, incidentally, is a prophet, perpetrated the unthinkable act after he forcefully ordered his daughter, Esther, to be staying with him in his rented one room, in December last year.

Saturday Tribune gathered that this weird story began about 17 years ago when Esther’s mother, Fatimo, got impregnated by Olaolu, an action that put a stop to Fatimo’s apprenticeship as a tailor. Fatimo’s mother, (Esther’s granny), while speaking to Saturday Tribune, said she never accepted Olaolu as a son-in-law.

“When my daughter got impregnated by him, I just kept quiet because I didn’t have a choice. I couldn’t ask my daughter to engage in abortion, so, I had to keep quiet and accept the inevitable”. “However, Olaolu proved me right as he was always abusing her. He would beat her mercilessly to the extent that, one day, when her baby (Esther) was just 20 days old, he beat her and she almost died. There was blood all over her body. That was how I started nursing both the mother and the child. But after she got well, she said she wanted to go back, and she went.”

“This continued until the baby was two years old, and my daughter packed her bags and left him again, saying the man would kill her if she stayed any longer. I accepted them back, and continued taking care of them”. The sixty-year-old woman, who pleaded anonymity, said Fatimo and her daugther stayed with her till she fell in love with another man. “But this evil man,” according to her, “kept threatening the new husband”. She said Olaolu went to the man’s house six times. “The day he went there the sixth time, he said he had never visited his enemy’s house seven times before, and that this man’s case wouldn’t be an exception. The following day, the man died mysteriously”.

The woman went further, saying that after the death of that man, her daughter had to come and stay with her again. “Some years later, about five years ago, she found another man. She became pregnant, but she died at childbirth”, the sad-looking woman concluded, amidst sobs. Saturday Tribune asked why Esther left her grandmother to go and stay with her father, she (Esther) answered that she did not leave on her own volition; she claimed that her father came in company of some members of the Odu’a People’s Congress (OPC) to forcefully take her away, a claim that her grandmother corroborated. The teenage mother was asked some questions. Excerpts:

What is your name?
My name is Aminat Adeleke.

Aminat Adeleke?
Yes.

But people call you Esther?
It was my father that changed my name to ‘Esther’ when he became a ‘prophet’. Even his own name was changed from Rasak to Olaolu.

How old are you?
I am 16 years old.

Who are your parents?
I told you my father’s name, Rasak Adeleke. And my mother was Fatimo in her lifetime.

So, she is dead?
Yes.

When?
Four years ago.

Where are you living?
I’m living with my father. I was staying in Akanran with my grandma until December, 2007 when he (father) came to where I stayed, accompanied by members of the OPC who were fully armed with charms, and compelled my grandma to release me or else they would kill her. That was how I came back to him.

Since you’ve been staying with your father, what have you been doing?
Nothing, though, initially, when he came to the village where I stayed with my grandma, he said I was not brilliant enough, and promised to put me in a standard school. But when I got to his house, he took me to one primary school without school uniform and books. I did not stay in that school for more than two months before he and one woman called Iya Sunday (Sunday’s mother), arranged for me to become a house-help in Lagos. My father collected #21,000 on me.

When and why did you leave Lagos?
I spent just three months in Lagos before I started falling sick. They sent for my father but he didn’t show up and this prompted my employers, in Lagos, to bring me back to Ibadan and hand me over to my father.

What was the nature of your sickness then?
It was malaria, and other symptoms a woman could feel during pregnancy.

What you are saying is that you had been pregnant before being taken to Lagos?
Yes.

Who impregnated you?
My father.

Your father?
Yes.

How did it happen?
It’s fairly a long story. When he took me away from my grandma in December last year, the impression he created was that he had built his own house. I was surprised when I got there and saw he was living in a one- room apartment. Anyway, I had no choice than to start sleeping in the room with him. The first thing that made me know that I was in for terrible was that he beat me at the slightest provocation. In fact, he, at times, beat me for the fun of it.

Then, one night, he woke me up and said he wanted to do something that would make me brilliant. Since he was called ‘Prophet’, I didn’t suspect anything. He gave me some black soap, put a string of black beads on his right wrist, and took a piece of red cloth, which he used to wipe my chest. He, then, started chanting incantations; still, I didn’t have any suspicion. After the incantations, he asked me to go and bathe with the black soap. I did and when I came back, he ordered me to lie down and started caressing me.

I protested, reminding him that what he was about doing was a taboo, but he said I should keep quiet, that he only wanted to help me become brilliant, and that if I told anybody, he would kill me. That was how he made love to me that day.

Was that the only time he made love to you?
No, he made love to me three more times, making it four times. It was afterwards that he sent me to Lagos to go and do house-help work.

What about your boyfriend?
I didn’t have any boyfriend. I was a virgin; it was my father that deflowered me.

Now that you’ve had the baby, what is the next step?
I don’t want the baby and I wouldn’t mind if he could be taken away for life so as to breath a sigh of relief.

In the nearest future, would you re-claim the boy?
Never. Because what happened to me it is an abomination.

his loinsSaturday Tribune gathered that it was the girl’s maternal family that saw to the arrest of Olaolu, after Esther put to bed two Thursdays ago, precisely September, 11. He was taken to Agugu Police Station. At the station, Olaolu confessed that he actually had sex with his daughter, saying it was the devil that made him to do such a thing.

He added that whenever he wanted to mate with his daughter, he would see the semblance of his late wife, Fatimo.

Olaolu was later taken to Juvenile Court at Iyaganku, Ibadan, where he was arraigned on a three- count charge of rape, threat and intimidation, and attempt to kill; all offences contrary to and punishable under Section 224(3), 358 and 509 of the Criminal Code.

The court magistrate, Mrs. A.S. Bolaji, did not hesitate in sending him to prison custody at Agodi. Speaking with Saturday Tribune in the prison custody, Olaolu, who is a native of Badeku in Ona- Ara Local Government Area of Oyo State, corroborated all that his daughter said.

In response to questions, Olaolu, who was in a sad mood, said, “Oga Journalist, please assist me. It’s the devil’s work. It is true that I made love to my daughter and I know that I’ve committed a grave sin.” He maintained that he was truly a ‘prophet.’

According to the Principal Social Welfare Officer (PSWO), Mr. Kehinde A. Akinyemi, the baby has been taken to the motherless babies home at Basorun, Ibadan, after he had been christened Samuel Abiara by the teenage mother and the police officer at the station, respectively.
