Exam Malpractices, National Embarrassment - Don

THE high level of examination malpractices being perpetrated in both secondary and tertiary institutions in the country has been described as a national embarrassment and public ridicule.

Professor Steve Okocha, Department of Chemistry, Ambrose Ali University, Ekpoma, Edo State, who expressed this concern in Abuja at a meeting of stakeholders to brainstorm on curbing examination malpractices in Nigeria, said urgent steps were needed to be taken by governments at all levels as well as individuals in salvaging the situation.

He said that for any meaningful development to take place and for the nation to attain its desired greatness, greater attention must be paid to education, including infrastructure development in schools and improvement on the quality of education delivery.

He said “our educational system is decaying and bedeviled with myriads of problems,including examination malpractices and this is a national embarrassment.

“We, all as Nigerians, have a stake in salvaging the system from the morass and save the nation from the public ridicule, while also ensuring that our educational system is recognized internationally”, he stated.
