IMESI-ILE community in Obokun Local Government Council of Osun State has appealed to the Post master-General to expand the scope and functions of the post office in the town.

The post office, which is one of the projects executed by the Federal Ministry of Communications in the Second Republic, was the biggest in Osun State.

According to Mr. Babajide Ojo, an indigene of the town, the post office, which at present, has a post master working in it was being under utilised in contrast to the building and the land mass it occupied in the town.

Mr Ojo said that as a result of its under utilisation, the building had started fading out, adding that if not that the people in the community cleared the bush surrounding the post office , it would have become an habitation for snakes and other reptiles as well as other dangerous animals.

He explained that when the post office was first sited in the town, the people were happy but now, the building has become an eyesore and looking at the building, both the roof and the ceiling were giving ways.

Mr Ojo appealed to the  Federal Government to take urgent steps to renovate the building while the Postmaster-General should expand the scope of the post office to serve as zonal headquarters that will dispatch all letters and parcels from post office around the area and those in the neighboring Ekiti State.

Also, speaking in an interview with Community News, the Oowa Ooye of Imesi-Ile, Oba Ademola Akinyemi Oyoyo II said that the post office building needed to be renovated before anything could be done with it.

Oba Akinyemi said that the post office was the Federal Government’s project, adding that there was little or nothing which the community could do on it.

The monarch, who said that the community was clearing the compound of the post office periodically, stated that “we are not happy that the post office building which is the biggest in the state, is not properly maintained.”
