THE National Association of Nigeria Traditional Medicine Practitioners (NANTMP) has  resolved to contribute meaningfully  to the national primary health care system in all communities in the country.

The association told Community News during a recent meeting of  Board of Trustees held in Ibadan, Oyo State capital, that herbal treatments were today, most popular and highly lucrative in internatiaonal market, adding that traditional medicine practitioners in Nigeria needed to gear up in the production of quality products in order to be part of  present global multi billion dollar revenue generation.

The new members of Board of  Trustees of the association include the National Secretary, Chief Obi D.C; Alhaji Sheu Garba Dangi, Public Relations Officer (PRO); Dr (Mrs) Peace Uzonze, National President, Executive Caretarker Committee, Alhaji Shaba Maikudi, National Secretary General, Dr Bello Isa Hasim; Professor Dayo Oyekole Treasurer and National Vice President South-West, Alhaji Zakariyau Oyedeji.

They also told the Community News that in view of  the present circumstance of  the association, there was the urgent need for purposeful leadership that will lead and serve selflessly and dilligently to put the union on the path to  unity, progress and development.

They directed all states caretaker committees chairmen to go back to their respective states to consult widely with members of  the association and choose people of  high integrity to serve on the state’s committee with a view of  taking the association to an enviable heights.

Also, all traditional medicine practitioners, were urged to be steadfast, ready to work tirelessly and contribute meaningfully towards the development, production, promotion and commercialisation of  quality herbal products in their respective communities that will take Nigeria to greater levels in the global medicine practice.

Finally, government at all levels were charged to allow traditional medicine to  contribute to  primary health care system so as to increase access of  the Nigerian population to health care, adding that state government, especially ministries of  health, should establish and constitute traditional medicine board.
