Residents of Itiya community in Obokun Local Government Area of Osun State have appealed to the state government to urgently find a lasting solution to the abandoned classroom building at the only Itiya Local Authority Primary School in the community for the sake of the pupils.

The Atiya of Itiya, Oba Julius Adelakun Ayodele-Arinkin, made the appeal on behalf of the residents of the community while answering questions from the Community News recently.

Atiya stated that a stormy wind had blown the roof of the building some years back and since then the building had been abandoned by the government. "We don't know what we have done for the government, the pupils of the school are suffering, we are in the rainy season now, the environment of the school is not conducive, this is the only school we have in this community but it seems that the government has marginalised us here."

Oba Ayodele said further, "Another problem confronting this community includes, road network, government should help us to rehabilitate the road that links Itiya with Ipetu-Ile community, it is an access road to us, while the government should construct a befitting bridge on the Oleyo river.

“Also, we have no light in the community, the electric cable and the polls have been mounted for the past five to six years, but up till now, nothing has been done either by the state or local government to give the ancient community just a transformer to enable us to be part of the world.

“We don't watch television, neither do we listen to music nor take cold drinks because we lack electricity, we have made a lot of efforts since the last administration till date but nothing has been done. Though, we are farmers, that will not say we will not benefit from government and we are always in support of every government in power, but my community has been marginalised," Atiya added.
