Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State has begun moves to douse the tension generated in Ado-Ekiti community by the frosty relationship between  the Ewi of Ado-Ekiti, Oba Adeyemo Adejugbe and one of the prominent chiefs, the Edemo.

Governor Fayemi was said to have met with Oba Adejugbe and another frontline indigene of the community, Chief Afe Babalola (SAN) “in pursuit of the government’s commitment to peace and development of the state.”

A statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr Olayinka Oyebode, said Governor Fayemi, at the meeting, appealed to the two leaders “to join him in working for peace in Ado-Ekiti and the state as a whole.”

The statement said: “Although, the governor declined further comments on the meeting which held behind closed doors.”

According to the statement, “he, however, said he was happy that the two leaders pledged they would continue to work together and with the government for the development of Ado-Ekiti and Ekiti State as a whole.”

It added that “the governor also restated his administration’s commitment to ensuring that the state continues to live up to its rating as one of the most peaceful states in the country, while also actualising the developmental goals of the government.”

The intervention of Governor Fayemi in the dispute was not unconnected with the sour relationship between the traditional ruler and the Edemo of Ado-Ekiti, Chief Bamidele Aduloju, which degenerated to the deposition of the Edemo by the trditional ruler.

The matter had created some tension in the community and tended to polarise the people, including some of the prominent indigenes.
