Man in court over rape of 13-yr old special girl

altAN Ogun State Magistrate Court, sitting in Ota, is currently saddled with the responsibility of determining the culpability and the severity of punishment to be meted to a 21-year old suspected rapist of a 13-year old special child in Agbado Station area of the state.

The suspect, Musibau Kehinde, had twice been arraigned before the court. The first time he was remanded in prison custody, while he was granted bail at the second hearing, a situation the parents of the raped child alluded to the lackadaisical attitude of the police.

The mother of the child, (names withheld) had some days after the arrest of the suspect, raised the alarm on what she described as a lack of interest in the case by the policewoman in charge of the case.

Kehinde has been described as a thorn in the flesh of young girls and married women around Olorunsogo and neighbouring streets in Oke Aro area of Ogun State, and had reportedly in the past run into trouble for sexually harassing women and young girls.

A relative of the mother of the raped girl, who simply gave her name as Adun, informed Crime and Security that the suspect had on the 14th and 15th of May had carnal knowledge of the young girl in an uncompleted building around Olorunsogo Street in Oke Aro.

Kehinde, a resident of Olorunsogo Street, by Havaliah Estate, was arrested by men of Agbado  Police Division, after the parents of the child had reported the incident, following signs of violence on the clothes and body of the young girl.

Adun stated, "When the incident happened, both parents of the raped child were not around. The bubble of the illicit act burst when the mother was examining her clothes and found out that her under wears were torn. The mother also discovered some bruises on the girl's body and she explained that her tormentor brutalised her before sleeping with her.”

The girl was said to have confided in her mother and narrated how Musibau waylaid her, twice on her way from school and forcefully slept with her.

She told her mum that after the first day, Musibau waylaid her again on her way from school the following day and slept with her and warned her sternly not to tell anybody.

The mother, while speaking with Crime and Security stated that "I was examining her clothes when I discovered that her bra were torn and close examination of her body also revealed some bruises.

“I called her and asked her what happened and she narrated how Musibau blocked her on the way from school and slept with her on two consecutive days. He would have continued the third day but the girl came home through another route." the mother stated.

She, however, lamented that "the boy has been like that. He was sent away from his friend's house after series of complaints from people that he was in the habit of sexually harassing young girls and married women. He does nothing other than smoking Indian hemp and fomenting trouble.

She expressed her displeasure at the way the case was being handled, especially by the IPO in charge of the case, who according to her, “deliberately shunned the second court sitting, prompting the magistrate to grant the accused bail.”

The IPO, according to her, a policewoman had a day before the court session called her to inform her of the adjournment of the case, only for her to get to court the following day to hear the case called for hearing.
