There should be no dialogue with Boko Haram - Nigerians

alt The Boko Haram sect has been a thorn in the flesh of all Nigerians. Many lives and properties have been lost in the course of their influx and the flow of innocent people's blood has yet to cease. The federal government has indicated that a dialogue with this group would ease their attacks on Nigerians. Nigerian Tribune took the matter to the court of the Nigerian public through a poll. Of the 666 people who participated in the poll, 333 (50 per cent) stood against the opinion, through their votes, while 321 people (48.2 per cent) opined that it would be a reasonable decision. 12 people (1.8 per cent) voted indifferent.

The question was also posed on our facebook page, where respondents were able to express their opinions on the issue. Doyin Adeoye brings the excerpts.

IFEDAYO AKINLEYE: Dialogue with BokoHaram! That would be a factual fact of retrogression. I don't support that. Doing that will give the blood-sucking sect more advantage.

Toheeb Demola: Yes. The reason being that I have been to Adamawa State and I know the level of security in the state, most especially the Nigerian Army. They are really trying their best, but in spite of all these Boko Haram still carries out its barbaric and ungodly attitude that is totally alien to the loving people of Nigeria. Could u (you) as a journalist account for or mention the number of lives of ordinary Nigerians that have been wasted. alt Arowolo DRbrown Kazeem: I welcome the idea of having a dialogue with Boko Haram cos (because) whenever 'terrorism' springs up in a place with many circumstances surrounding it, it doesn't go down using force. We have several examples around the world, Israel/Palestine, Taliban against NATO etc. Let the FG (federal government) talk to these guys (Boko Haram) to see if what they are clamouring for can be met. Nobody will be happy if Nigeria turns to another Somalia. Having a dialogue with them doesn't mean we don't av (have) a good government.

Raji Opeyemi: I'm not in support of that, it means we don't have good government in this country, instead of dialogue, the president should resign bcos (because) he is not capable again. Could anyone call himself Boko Haram during the regime of Obasanjo?
