Aside the names, there is a striking resemblance between the late Funmi Martins and her daughter, Mide-Funmi Martins, who has been able to stand on her own in the movie industry. The beautiful actress talked about her style, career, passion, among other things, in this chat with Doyin Adeoye.

WHO is Mide Martins?
Mide-Funmi Martins is an easy-going person, calm, God-fearing, loving and caring. I was born in Ibadan, though a native of Abeokuta. I'm the first child from my mother (the late Funmi Martins). I'm married to popular actor and director, Afees Abiodun and I'm blessed with two children. Glory to God.

Can you let us into your early years?
Growing up as a child for me was a bitter experience. My parents separated when I was very young, so my dad remarried and it was not a cool time for me and my brother, because my step mother frustrated us both. You know when a man remarries and the children from his previous marriage continue to stay with him, it was a terrible experience, but I thank God for my life today, because it made me a stronger woman.

Educational background?
I had my primary school education in Ibadan, also attended Community Grammar School also in Ibadan, before I finished my secondary school education at Providence Heights Secondary School in Lagos. After which I proceeded to the Ogun State University (OSU) where I bagged a degree in International Relations.

At what point did you discover your talent?
I never thought I'd become an actor before my mother's death, but I decided to take it up from where she stopped and I discovered that I had it in me already. It runs in the family.

Would you say your mum's career influenced yours?
Yes, it gave me a platform to work on and it is a great source of inspiration for me.

What was the first major role you played?
That would be Oba Asa, it was Saheed Balogun's movie and it was really challenging for me. First, because I had never played that kind of character before but I thank God I portrayed it perfectly eventually. And secondly because I was pregnant and the role involved a lot of shouting and fighting, but throughout the shooting of the movie, no one knew I was pregnant, not even the producer.

The most memorable role you've played?
That would be my character in Mafikanmi, because I played the role of a mad girl. It was really tough because that was my first time of playing such a role and I gave it my best shot.

Best colleague you've ever worked with?
As for me, everyone is good, as long as we don't have grudges about each other.

Your relationship with other colleagues in the field?
It is perfect, because I hardly make friends. So, I only work with them and go my own way. I don't have close friends among my colleagues.

Most memorable moment on the job?
That was when I worked with an English director, Alex Mouth, on a MABO project, about six months ago. It was a memorable and different experience for me.

What inspires your movies?
I write my movies from experiences.

Worst rumor you've ever heard about yourself?
I was really surprised when I heard the rumor that my husband caught me sleeping with another man. It was really terrible.

How did you manage the rumour?
When people don't hear anything from you for long, they tend to cook up stories about you to attract people's attention. And because it was just a rumour, I was able to scale through and I thank God I survived it.

With you and your husband into a time consuming career, how do you create time for your kids?
It has been God's grace. It is not easy leaving one's family for two to three weeks, but with the help of the Almighty God, we manage our home very well.

What was the movie that made you?
That would be my own movie Ibuso.

Challenges facing the movie industry at large?
Piracy! They have finished us. It is only God and the government that can save us from them.

What can't you do without at any moment?
The thought of my kids, it gives me great joy.

Beauty secrets, what keeps you in shape?
Dieting. Then God and my husband.

What would you have delved into, if not movies?
I'd have been a businesswoman.

Fashion sense?
I'm hot when it comes to fashion. I try and blend anything that is in vogue into my wardrobe.

Favourite clothier?
Anyone that does it well.

Perfumes?
I love the Heat by Beyonce and Gucci perfumes.

How do you unwind?
I don't really socialise; I'm not a party or club freak. I'm a cool and quiet person.

Any role restrictions?
I can't go nude.

Words for upcoming artistes?
They should take things easy and go one step at a time, because that's what it takes to survive in the industry. You can achieve so much if you are prayerful and exercise patience.

Words for your fans?
I love my fans, because they made me what I am today. Without them, there would be no me. I appreciate them all.
