PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan, on Monday, approved the assignment of portfolios to 17 new ministers he sworn in last Friday and the redeployment of three other ministers who were earlier assigned portfolios.

However, the Managing Director of the World Bank, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, who has been tipped to emerge as finance minister, was the only nominee absent at the ceremony which was held inside the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa.

Dr Yerima Lawal Ngama from Yobe State was appointed Minister of State for Finance.

Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, announced the assignment of the portfolios in a statement he signed in Abuja.
President Jonathan has, accordingly, approved the appointment of Dr Bello Mohammed  from Kebbi as Minister of Defence.

The president also approved the redeployment of Navy Captain Caleb Olubolade (retd) as the Minister of State for FCT to Minister of Police Affairs, while Ms Olajumoke Akinjide was named as Minister of State, FCT.

While Dr Shamsudeen Usman  was appointed as Minister of National Planning, Professor Barth Nnaji from Enugu heads the Power Ministry.

Others are Comrade Abba Moro, Minister of Interior, Benue; Hajia Zainab Ibrahim Kuchi Minister of State Niger Delta Affairs, Niger; Alhaji Bukar Tijani, Minister of State, Agriculture and Natural Resources, Borno; Mr Mike Onolememen, Minister of Works, Edo; Professor (Mrs) Viola Onwuliri, Minister of State, Foreign Affairs, Imo and Mr Mohammed Musa Sada, Mines and Steel Development, Katsina.

Also, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi from Kwara is now the Minister of Youth Development; Mr Olusegun Aganga, Minister of Trade and Investment, Lagos; Dr Samuel Ioraer Ortom, Minister of State for Trade and Investment, Benue; Mr Olugbenga Ashiru, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ogun; Mrs Olusola Obada, Minister of State Defence, Osun and Ambassador Bashir Yugudu, Minister of State Works, Zamfara.

The president also approved the redeployment of Alhaji Yusuf Suleman from the Ministry of Transport to the Sports Commission as chairman and minister, while Senator Idris Umar is now the Minister of Transport.

Senator Anyim said the ministers were expected to take full responsibilities of running the affairs of the ministries assigned to them and assist the president in delivering quality service to Nigerians in line with the transformation agenda of the administration.
