Britain demands release of its citizen kidnapped in Kebbi

Share

BRITISH officials have appealed for the release of its national and an Italian kidnapped by al-Qaida members in Kebbi State. The British Foreign Office, on Thursday, said its officials were urgently examining the video featuring two men claimed to have been kidnapped by al-Qaida members.

The officials said they were working to secure the release of the hostages and urged their captors to “show compassion and release them.”

The said video, not yet made public, was sent to AFP’s office in Ivory Coast.

Gunmen reportedly abducted the two men on Thursday, May 12, in their apartment in the Kebbi State, Nigeria.

Before their abduction, they were working as engineers for an Italian construction company.

British officials said they had confirmed that two men, including a British national, were kidnapped, but had not released their names.

Before now, scores of kidnappings had been carried out in Nigeria’s oil-rich Niger Delta region, but such attacks were relatively rare in the North.
