SECURITY agents in Kogi State, on Wednesday, recorded a major breakthrough, as they discovered bombs and weapons buried in a bush between Okene, Kogi State and Igara in Edo State.

The state Director of Security Service, Mr Mike Fubara, while briefing newsmen on Wednesday, said that the security agents, made up of military, State Security Service (SSS), the police and Air Force personnel, through their investigation, were able to discover the spot, where the bombs and weapons were buried.

He said 10 AK 47, 545 AK 47 live ammunition, 55 load of 9mm pistol ammunition and 14 locally made hand grenades were discovered.

Other items discovered were eight anti-tank Improvised Explosive Devices, two revolver pistols and one Nissan Jeep with registration number Lagos LF 98 AAA.

He linked the exhumed items to terrorists, saying the joint task force would soon start to dismantle the arsenal.

According to him, what they discovered was enough to deal with the state, adding that the Federal Government, having considered the strategic location of the state, had deployed high-ranking intelligence officers to curtail the activities of the terrorists.

He further disclosed that some arrests had been made and the task force would continue to match the terrorists act with counter-actions.

Police are now more proactive in their intelligence gathering. They should not have achieved this feat if they are at the highway check points collecting money.

I think the arrest of a member of the gang that invaded I garra last week would have led to this discovery.
