THE Deputy Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Operations, Mr Boboye Oyeyemi, has attributed the increasing number of road accidents along the major highways in the country to the use of leaves to indicate broken-down vehicles.

Oyeyemi, who confirmed that the sector lacked enough towing trucks to remove broken-down vehicles along the expressway, urged road users to always use reflective triangles in order to reduce incessant auto crashes on the major highways.

According to him, the attitude of leaving leaves on the road even after repairing vehicles had resulted in several road crashes.

The FRSC boss, who made this known during the official flag-off of a special patrol code-named ‘Operation Rainbow’, to curb incessant road mishaps in some identified corridors in the country, said about nine flash points had been identified in Nigeria with increasing records of road traffic crashes.

The flagging-off took place on Lafia-Akwanga Federal High way in Nasarawa State.

The flash points, according to him, include Lafia-Makurdi, Lafia-Akwaga-Keffi, keffi-Nasarawa Toto, Abuja-Kaduna-Kano, Lagos Ibadan Express Way, Makurdi-Gboko as well as Makurdi- Aliade-Otukpo and Ibadan-Ife-Ilesha-Akure- Owo- Ifo roads.
