AS part of its commitment to healthcare especially in the area of capacity building and health information management, pharmaceutical giant, Pfizer, has commissioned an e-pharmacy project at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital(LUTH), Idi-Araba, which is the first of its kind in Nigeria.

The e-pharmacy pilot project is aimed at creating a pool of credible and realizable data that can be used for globally accepted research publication.

The health information which is installed collates pharmacy based data such as stock checks, patient/pharmacist transactions, drug interactions, patient history checks and prescription costs

While lauding the initiative, LUTH’s Chief Medical Director(CMD), Prof. Akin Osibogun said: “This project will foster a greater understanding of patient’s needs which will in turn improve the overall quality of medical care”

He commended Pfizer for not only identifying the need, but deciding to fill the information gap by partnering with one of the premier research hospitals in the country

Speaking at the event, Country Manager, Pfizer, Dr. Enrico Liggeri stated that Nigeria was selected as the target country for the e-pharmacy pilot due to the concentration of the largest high-risk patient populations as well as its complex and overstretched healthcare system.

He stated that once this pilot project is fully in operation, the company is prepared to expand to other units of the hospital and even other institutions in Nigeria and beyond.

Pfizer Medical Director, Dr. Kodjo Soroh said: “This is the first major public-private partnership by Pfizer in Nigeria and we look forward to engaging with more government institutions to deliver quality healthcare to the Nigerian populace.”
