The Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria (MUSWEN) and Al-Furquan have condemned the Christmas day bombings of St. Theresa Catholic Church in Madala, Niger State.

The Islamic groups in separate statement in Ibadan, Oyo and Lagos States, urged Nigerians to refrain from heating the polity but rather join hands together to pray and work towards ensuring that the evil elements among them were brought to book.

The Executive Secretary of MUSWEN, Professor Daud Noib, said that the perpetrators couldn’t have carried out such an act on behalf of any religion.

According to him, killing of innocent lives and destruction of religious sanctuaries like Synagogues, Churches and Mosques are vehemently prohibited in Islam and anybody who indulges in such dastardly acts under any guise is a criminal who should be treated as such.

He said that even in the course of a battle, attack on non-combatant worshippers in any place of worship was totally forbidden in Islam.

He called on the government to fish out the heartless terrorists who committed the criminal act and make them face the music, saying that rather than condemnations and lamentations over such terrorist acts, the government should beef up security to prevent reoccurrence.

According to him, government should device a means of identifying the members of the group and engage them in a dialogue with a view to finding out the real cause of such abominable acts in order to find a final solution to them.

Besides the use of force, he said government should adopt some other measures that were capable of ventilating the atmosphere for security in terms of massive employment, qualitative education and restoration of social amenities like electricity and others.

The Amirah of Al-Furquan, Lagos State district, Alhaja Shareefah Joke Yusuf, called on government and security agents to look Boko Haram “because it is not impossible to have some unscrupulous elements both within and external forces who would want to hide under the umbrella of the group.”
