AN Islamic group, Jama’at Ta’awunil Muslimeen Society of Nigeria has advocated the entrenchment of religious tolerance among religious and ethnic groups in the country, saying that peaceful environment is the bedrock of development of any society.

It also disassociated itself from Boko Haram and Alqaeda sects, and condemned the act of terrorism in Nigeria by the sects where many lives and property had been lost, insisting that the security of lives and property of the Nigerian people should be paramount to every sane mind in the country.

This was contained in an open letter entitled:”Save Nigeria from further bloodshed and disintegration”, written by the organisation to the President and Commander –In- Chief of Armed Forces, Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan and copied United States of America (USA) and Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on how to find a lasting solution to the insecurity problem presently threatening the peaceful co-existence of the country.

It alleged that the issue of terrorism was now gradually escalating beyond the control of the Federal Government without prejudice to its effort.

It described poor security outfits, poverty, ignorance, religious fundamentalism, poor orientation, electoral malpractices and lack of cooperation among the past and the present leaders in Nigeria especially in the areas of sharing ideas and experience as factors responsioble for the insecurity situation in the country.

The group advocated for the establishment of an independent commission of trouble resolution which will comprise sincere and committed Nigerians to the unity of the nation that will try the several cases of Niger-Delta and Boko Haram as part of efforts to arrest the ugly situation of insecurity in the land.

It advised the Federal Government to establish security outfit disciplinary committee to address issue of poverty, disabuse the minds of youth on thuggery, creation of employment opportunities for the youths, hooliganism and peace-disrupting acts, employment of free and popular appointment method, political education, adoption of equitable revenue allocation formula, engagement of genuine religious leaders and genuine restructuring of the country.

Commenting further, the National President of the group, Sheikh Daood Imran Molaasan, described the introduction of N5, 000 notes as bad development for a crumbling economy like the Nigerians.
