The month of Safar
With total submission to the will of Allah,we have come to the threshold of the Islamic lunar month of Safar. It is the second month in the Hijrah calendar. It follows the sacred month of Muharram, the first month in which we have the spiritual day of Ashura (the 10th day) when Allah (SWT) granted the prayers of most Prophets, Sheikhs, and Ulamas. Safar, which is the period for material provision and renewal of divine faith preceeds the third lunar month of Rabiul-Awwal, the first season for harvesting of fruit of faith, and birth-month of the Seal of Allah’s Messengers, Prophet Muhammed (SAW). So by the 12th of next lunar month, the faithful across the world will celebrate ,Maolud-Nabiyyi the birthday of the unlettered Prophet who has brought the greatest and most miraculous scripture, the Holy Qur’an, which remains the Holy Book of Wisdom, science, arts, history, technology and remain original and uncorrupted or uneditioned for all ages since the last 15 centuries. (Q4:82; 2:23; 11: 13).
However, spiritual researches have shown that all negative or bad things were created by the Creator in the month of Safar, especially on the last Wednesday of the lunar month. The odd things were created by Allah to serve as alternatives for the good things of life. And since Allah has created the jinn and all men to worship Him alone (Q16:51), the negative things have been prepared for those who may out of the free-will given them defy Allah’s Commandments as preached by His prophets.
Further spiritual researches lend credence to the odd nature of days in the month of Safar as 13 of the usually 29 of the lunar account of days are scovered to be negative for the take-off of projects or good causes. That is why Muslim faithful engage in fasting and spiritual prayers in this month to ward off bad things or happenings.
Though some Ulamas say such fasting and prayers in the month of Safar is just Wajb (voluntary) and never Fard (obligatory), nor Sunnatu-Muhakkadah (Prophet’s emphatic tradition), and not even Musthab (optional), it is Targhib to call people to the cause of Allah and guide them against deeds that may result in the wrath of Allah. (Q16:45).
Indeed, many nations were perished by Allah in history on this last Wednesday of Safar for rejecting the worship of only One Allah as preached by the respective prophets sent to them. Such include the ‘Ad people, who called Prophet Hud a liar and an imbecile for asking them to worship only one God, and they were punished with terrible famine and finally wiped off with fun hot wind. (Q7:72).
Also, the Thamud people were destroyed on this day for rejecting the truth message of only one God, and ham-strung the she-camel that was shown to them as asign of God (against greediness) to graze freely on earth. They were perished by a dreadful earthquake that buried them and their fine buildings. (Q26: 159; 7:73; 91: 14). The people of Prophet Lut in the cities or the plain of Sodom and Gomorrah suffered the same fate for denouncing the truth of God’s law of mate between man and woman for homosexualism. They were all stoned to death with rain of brimstones of hard baked clay, including his wife who served as informant to the detractors (Q7:84).
Also, the Madyan people of Prophet Shu’aib were destroyed as the Thamud people on the last Wednesday of Safar with mighty blast of earthquake. They rejected the message of the worship of only one God and warning against giving short measure or weight (profiteering) in their businesses. (Q7:92). It was also on the same day that Allah perished the Egyptian King Pharaoh, his prime minister, Haman, and other followers in the Red Sea for refusing the message of Prophet Musa to worship God and for arrogantly hoping to frustrate God’s plans for Israel. (Q10:90-92; 9:36-38;29:39-40).
