Barely 48 hours after he picked his nomination form to contest the 2011 governorship election in Abia State, the immediate past deputy governor of the state, Mr Chris Akomas, is now a guest of the Abia State police command for allegedly sponsoring kidnapping in the state.

Nigerian Tribune authoritatively gathered that the ex-deputy governor was invited by the police on Friday immediately after he picked the nomination form on the platform of the Peoples Progressive Alliance (PPA) and spent over four and a half hours in the police station before he was released, after making some statements.

By 3.57 p.m. on Monday, Akomas was again a guest of the police as he was invited to answer some questions about alleged security breaches in Ubakala area of Umuahia South Local Government Area on Saturday, where the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) function was held.

By 7.00 p.m. on Monday, Akomas was yet to leave the police premises even after the Police Commissioner, Jonathan Johnson, had left for home and the flag lowered.

When asked, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Geofrey Ogbonna, confirmed the presence of the former deputy governor in the police station, but said he did not know the reason for his presence.

Meanwhile, a bus loaded with school children of Abayi International School, Aba, was taken away by unknown gunmen, who allegedly attacked them at Osisioma area of the commercial city.

The incident was not confirmed by the police.
