ABOUT 1,000 bags loaded with weeds suspected to be Indian hemps were, on Tuesday, recovered by policemen from the Oyo State command from a house in Akobo area of Ibadan.

Also arrested was one Anthony Owoeye, who was found in the building where the bags of the suspected items were concealed, while the police were on the manhunt for a principal suspect, Peter Boxing, who allegedly owned the exhibits.

Speaking with journalists on Wednesday, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Mr Mohammed Ladan, said  the recovery was as a result of an information acted upon by the police.

Ladan said the owner of the building, where the bags of weed were hidden, was in the house on a routine visit, when he noticed that one of the flats in the building was loaded with the said exhibits.

The man had reported immediately to the police command, which swung into action by detailing detectives to recover the bags of weed.

The arrested suspect, Owoeye, told the Nigerian Tribune that he was employed by Mr Boxing about four months ago to keep the surroundings of the building.

Though he said he was using one of the rooms in the flats, Owoeye denied knowing that the bags of weed were kept in the house.

He further stated that his employer was the only one who had the keys  to the other rooms and used to come once in a month to the house.

Nigerian Tribune gathered from sources that each bag was worth N80,000 in market value.

The deputy commissioner of police said the exhibits and the suspect would be transferred to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for appropriate action.

Meanwhile, the Kwara State police command has step up security in the state, as the presidential candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), General Muhammadu Buhari (retd), arrive Ilorin, the state capital, today, in continuation of his nationwide presidential campaign rally.

Nigerian Tribune reliably gathered from the command that necessary apparatus had been put in place by the state Police Commissioner, Mr Peter Gana, to record successful campaign rally by the the presidential candidate of the CPC.

The venue of the rally, according to sources, would be combed by men of the anti-bomb squad unit of the command, to avoid anything that could lead to lost of life during the campaign.

According to the press statement issued by the state chairman of the party, Mallam Suleyman Buhari, on behalf of the campaign organisation of the gubernatorial candidate of the party in the state, Alhaji AbdulRahaman Abdul-Rasaq, General Buhari was expected to pay a visit to the state governor, Dr Bukola Saraki, at the Government House, Ilorin.

General Buhari, according to the release, would also visit the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari at his palace, before he addressed the CPC supporters and well wishers at the rally.

The statement urged supporters of the party to come out en masse for the rally.
