Jonathan can be trusted to deliver - Defence Minister

Share

NIGERIANS have been told that President Goodluck Jonathan can be trusted to deliver on his promises, with the con-duct of a free and fair election into the National Assembly, on Saturday.

The Defence Minister, Prince Adetokunbo Kayode, while speaking with the Nigerian Tribune, on Mon-day, said President Jonathan had, indeed, proved to Nigerians and the whole world that he could be trusted for his word.

It will be recalled that one of the promises Jona-than made when he became president was the conduct of a free and fair election that would meet interna-tional standard.

“Jonathan not only keeps promises, he works for their fulfilment. He promised Nigeria a free and fair election and if you look at the National Assembly election conducted on Saturday, you will agree with me that he has deli-vered on his promise.

“He promised to make the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) an independent body and he has done just that,” he said.

The minister said even the international observers that monitored the ele-ctions lauded President Jonathan for creating an atmosphere that ensured the conduct of a free and fair election, adding that “you can see that he is not saying that because he is the president, his party must win at all cost. This is one of what he said he would do and there will be more after May 29.”

He said the promise of electoral reform delivered by President Jonathan was only a tip of the iceberg of others he would fulfil if he won the presidential election on Saturday.
