THE Manufacturers Association of Ni-geria (MAN), on Tuesday, identified poor power supply, policy inconsistency, touting and unfair practice of revenue generation as some of the problems facing industrial development in the country.

The chairman of Oyo/Ondo/Osun and Ekiti states branch of the association, Chief Michael Daramola, said this at the 28th Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in Akure, the Ondo State capital.

He said the inability of the Federal Government to ensure stable and adequate power supply had negatively affected the manufacturing sector of the economy.

He lamented that the gross decline in the manufacturing capacity utilisation was largely due to erratic power supply, saying that the current power generation of 3,000 megawatts was inadequate for the industrial development of the country.

Chief Daramola also noted that the situation had led to the closure of many industries while many others had relocated to neighbouring countries where adequate power supply was guaranteed.

The MAN chairman advocated a speedy and complete liberalisation of the power sector in order to have efficient and  guaranteed stable power supply.

He also implored governments to evolve strict policies on road rehabilitation and maintenance, adding that the development of massive railway programme should also be embarked upon by them.

Ondo State governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, said the state government had been implementing programmes meant to encourage investors to come to the state.

The governor, who spoke through his Chief of Staff (COS), Dr Kola Ademujimi, said the urban renewal efforts of government in Akure and other major towns of the state were geared towards making the towns conducive for investors.
