THE National Union of True Igbo Movement (NUTIM) has warned members of the Islamic sect, Boko Haram, to stop the current killing of Igbos in the North or face retaliatory attacks in Igboland.

The group also called on security agencies to arrest the insecurity in the land, warning that there was a grand plot to disintegrate Nigeria through Boko Haram.

Speaking to newsmen in Owerri, Imo State capital,  the group’s national president, Dr Samfo Nwankwo,  said NUTIM would no longer watch helplessly as Igbos were slaughtered daily in Nigeria.

According to Nwankwo, NUTIM was in possession of information that some foreign countries were funding Boko Haram to cause insurrection in Nigeria with Igbos as victims.

Such foreign elements were out to ensure that Nigeria did not exist beyond 2015 as had been predicted.

The NUTIM boss noted that while it was the job of the security agencies to forestall such a plot, the group was uncomfortable with the killing of Igbos by Boko Haram.

He said: “Just look at the list of victims of the Madalla Christmas bombing, almost all of them are Igbos. Why must Igbos be the target of any agitation from the North, especially when we all know that Boko Haram is a northern agenda? Since it is now clear that the security agencies are incapable of handling the situation, it is now imperative that the Igbos must protect themselves.”

The group said Igbos were now prepared not only to protect themselves but to retaliate any attack on Igbo people anywhere in Nigeria.

“Our people are not goats that they should be slaughtered at random, the group said.”

Nwankwo commiserated with the families of the victims of the Christmas bombing, and called on the Federal Government to adequately compensate families of the victims.

He called on Igbo governors and other leaders of note to work in concert to ensure the protection of the lives and property of Igbos in Northern Nigeria.
