Okonjo-Iweala refutes plan to resign

The Minister of Finance, Mrs Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, on Wednesday, refuted the rumour doing the rounds that she threatened to resign her portfolio if the fuel subsidy policy was not implemented.

The minister, on her Twitter page on Wednesday, described the rumour as false and michievous and charged Nigerians to disregard it.

Mrs Okonjo-Iweala said: “I believe in Nigeria and I want the best for my country people. My decision to return home and take up the ministerial appointment was made because my heart beats for the restoration of our dear country to a pride of place amongst the comity of nations.

“The collective happiness of Nigerians and the desire to showcase the best of Nigerians are more important to me than the pursuit of a singular policy.

“I consider it a great priviledge to serve my fatherland and my fellow compatriots in this capacity. So, it is not something I will treat with such triviality as being bandied around by the few individuals who are bent on keeping us stagnant as a nation.

“Please, neither am I insensitive to the heart cries of my people. I respect the wish of Nigerians and I love Nigerians.”
