THE task force of military, police and the State Security Services (SSS) in Kano has corroborated the view of President Goodluck Jonathan on the readiness of the Federal Government to dialogue with members of the Boko Haram, provided they would come out and show their identities.

This is just as the joint operations of the security had confirmed the killing of four members of the Islamic sect in a shootout at Mariri, Kano.

Making the assertion in Kano, at a press conference, on Wednesday, the state director of the SSS, Bassey Etteng, also disclosed that even in Kano, the security and the government were ready to engage the sect in a dialogue, if its members would come out.

“We are hundred per cent ready for dialogue with the Boko Haram members if they will come out from their hidings and show themselves, because you cannot dialogue with somebody you don’t know,” Etteng said.

According to him, as security operatives, “we are not ruling out dialogue at all, because dialogue is the only solution capable of resolving the present problem we are facing.”

He, however, asked the Boko Haram members to summon courage by coming out to engage in a dialogue with the government and the security, for the good of everyone.

Earlier, the spokesman of the joint security operations, Lieutenant Ikediche Iweha, had said at first, they did not use force when facing the Boko Haram members, adding that they were forced to engage them in shootout after suspects might have attacked them.

He said four members of the sect were killed at Mariri, while 10 AK-47 rifles, 27 loaded magazine of ammunition, one pump action gun, 223 live ammunitions in packets, several mobile police uniforms with identity cards, several bags of urea fertiliser, as well as assorted connection cables for detonations were recovered.
