THERE was tension around Ketu and Alapere areas of Lagos State, on Monday morning, as one person was killed and several others injured in a clash involving Yoruba youths and some Hausas in the area.

The Yoruba youth were protesting the death of one of them who was beaten to death by some Hausa boys, after they had accused him of stealing a motorcycle.

The timely intervention of the police prevented a full blown communal clash, as the Yoruba youth had reportedly attempted to launch a reprisal on Hausa community.

The incident, which occurred during the early morning rush hours, created panic around Ketu, Mile 12 and Alapere, forcing people to run away from the area.
Nigerian Tribune gathered that the problem started early on Monday, when some Hausa 

youths accused a Yoruba boy of stealing a motorcycle, which belonged to one of them.
The Yoruba boy was said to have escaped from the Hausa youth, but he was chased to Mile 12 area and beaten up, leading to his death.

The Hausa boys, in a bid to cover up for the killing, attempted to dump the remains of the slain Yoruba boy in a river near Alapere area of Ketu.

The development caused panic, as they were challenged by Yoruba people who lived around the area.
The encounter led to argument and later clash between the Yoruba people and the Hausa boys, who insisted that the deceased Yoruba boy was a thief.

The image maker in charge of the state police command, Joseph Jaiyeoba, confirmed the clash to the Nigerian Tribune and added that one person had been arrested in connection with the incident.

He also said the state police command had held a peace meeting between leaders of the Yoruba and Hausa communities in Mile 12.
