Dana Air plane crash: Agbakoba to institute legal action for victims

Former Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) president, Olisa Agbakoba and Associates (OA & A), is set to institute a legal action on behalf of victims of the June 3 Dana plane crash in Iju-Ishaga area of Lagos.
This was stated in a release issued by OA & A in Lagos on Wednesday and made available to the Nigerian Tribune.
According to the release, “OA & A has been consulted by some victims to represent them in the enforcement of their rights and claims emanating from the crash of Dana plane on June 3, 2012.
“A data base of all persons affected in whatsoever manner by the air accident is being compiled to present a comprehensive claim. This is a complementary public interest litigation and advocacy initiative by the firm to support those who have suffered varying degree of losses. The suit will be commenced soon,” the release stated.
Also, the firm has asked for an inquest into the death of all the victims of the crash.
“Olisa Agbakoba and Associates/HURILAWS give you notice of the fatal accident resulting in the death of 153 persons including pilots and crew, that occurred on June 3, 2012 involving Dana airline flight 992 within your jurisdiction in the Iju-Ishaga Agege area of Lagos State.
“The crash also caused collateral damage resulting in fatalities in residential accommodation located at Iju-Ishaga. Pursuant to s. 15 (1) of the Coroners System Law 2007 of Lagos State which provides thus: The Coroner shall hold an inquest whenever he is informed that the death of a deceased person lying within his Coroners’ District was a result of death in a violent, unnatural or suspicious situation.
“We request that an inquest be convoked as required by the Coroners law of Lagos State. You may wish to assign the inquest to the appropriate district coroner,” Agbakoba stated.
