Attempts by security agents to enforce the ban on commercial motorcycles within Jos, the capital of Plateau State, was resisted as defiant operators in the early hours of Wednesday, came out in some parts of the city for business, leading to the death of two persons in the confrontation that ensued between them and the security agents.

Nigerian Tribune learnt that the Okada riders in Nasarawa, Bauchi road, Gengere and other interior parts of the state capital, came out as usual for business in the morning but were confronted by  security agents, who descended on them and in the process, impounded many motorcycles.

Commercial motorcycle operators in the affected areas re-grouped to protest the seizure of their motorcycles and in the process hauled various dangerous objects on the law enforcement agents.

A source close to the scene told the Nigerian Tribune that in an attempt to disperse the crowd, the policemen released several volleys of gunshots into the air, thus causing a stampede in which many were injured.

However, the enforcement turned bloody in Jos South Local Government area of the state as two operators were allegedly killed by stray bullet.
