14 soldiers face court-martial in Ibadan

The Nigerian Army on Thursday, inaugurated a seven-man court-martial to try 14 soldiers who have been linked with various offences ranging from murder, manslaughter, stealing, kidnapping, rape, stealing to burglary, among others.
The inauguration took place at the 2 Division Nigerian Army Headquarters, Adekunle Fajuyi Cantonment Ibadan, with Brigadier General Okon Ekanem as president.
The seven-man court- martial, which was inaugurated by the General Officer Commanding (GOC), Major Mohammed Abubakar, will commence sitting on June 26, with adequate provisions that would allow for fair hearing, justice and fair play, both for the prosecution and the accused, the Army pledged.
He disclosed that among them, a private, who allegedly beat his wife to death, has got counsel to represent and defend them. Others, he said include, Colonel S. Idris, Colonel Francis Eyemese, Lance Corporal Bello Lawal, Lance Corporal Anthony Okpe, Lance Corporal Emelike Okoro, Private Sapper Aliyu Taffida, Private Sanni Mohammed, and Private Shuaibu Dauda, Private Oswel Friday, Private Abdulkarim Abba, Private Ukandu Ikachukwu, Private Eyo Ukwu, Private Pinda Danjuma, and Private Henry Ahamefule.
According to him, the team of prosecutors is to be led by Lieutenant Sunday Akinyemi, while the lead judge advocate is Colonel Musa Kalla Mohammed.
Other members of the court martial with Ekanem leading are, Colonel T.C. Eze, Colonel M.S. Subaru, Colonel F.O. Akanji, Colonel H.R. Momoh and Colonel M.A. Masanawa.
He charged members of the court to play the game according to laid down rules, as stipulated by the constitution, administer justice without fear or favour.
