THE Ondo State government has challenged the state Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)  to justify its claim that the 290 palliative vehicles recently released for public use by the government were purchased by the Federal Government, even as it described the PDP as mere attention seekers.

The PDP, in a statement signed by its publicity secretary, Mr Wale Ozogoro, had erroneously claimed that the 290 vehicles, which included buses and cars, recently distributed to members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Ondo State and as shuttle busses to convey students to and from their schools, belonged to the Federal Government.

Describing the statement as reckless, the state Commissioner for Information, Mr Kayode Akinmade, said such words could only have come from charlatans who did not believe someone else could do what they failed to do when they had the opportunity.

“They are charlatans who don’t believe somebody else can do what they failed to do when they had the opportunity.

“Governor Olusegun Mimiko has no reason to lie or deceive the people, because he got his mandate from the people.

“All the projects embarked upon by the Mimiko-led government are verifiable, unlike theirs that perished in the dream pipe,” Akinmade said.

The commissioner also insisted that all the 290 vehicles mentioned by the PDP were purchased by the state government.

“The state government hereby states that all the vehicles distributed by Governor Olusegun Mimiko as palliatives to commercial cab operators and as shuttle buses to students were procured exclusively by the state government,” Akinmade said.

He added that “should the PDP spokesperson cross-check his facts well, he will discover that he is only chasing shadows,

“The PDP should mention how many of the buses were given to Lagos, Ogun and, even, the PDP-controlled states if, indeed, the Federal Government gave the buses to Ondo State government.”

He concluded that the state government was committed to its determination to work for the people, adding that it would continue to act up to the promise and urged the PDP in the state to stop exposing itself to further ridicule.
