Disturbed by the spate of insecurity in the country, the likes of Professor Ben Nwabueze, Femi Falana and Alhaji Balarabe Musa, are scheduled to meet in Lagos on Tuesday, June 26 and Thursday, June 28, at the Sheraton Hotels and Towers, Ikeja, Lagos, to proffer a lasting solution to the spate of killings in the northern part of the country.

Others expected in the meeting include Mallam Adamu Ciroma, Alhaji Yusuf Sule, Chief Olu Falae, Chief Audu Ogbeh, Dr Tunji Braithwaite,Chief Chukwuemka Ezeife Alabo and Graham Douglas.

Also expected are Chief John Nwodo, Chief Solomon Lar; Professor Pat Utomi, Mr Olisa Agbakoba, Comrade Abduwaheed Omar, Comrade Peter Esele, Mallam Shehu Sanni, Mallam Bukar Zarma, Mrs Ganiat Fawehinmi, Alhaji Shettima Yerima, Mallam Naseer Kura, Mr Abubaarkar G. Umar, Mallam Bala Zaka, Mr Bitrus Gwadah, among others.”

Condemning the spate of bombings in the country, the National Summit Group (NSG) said the meeting became imperative for the members of the steering committee from the six geopolitical zones in the country, noting its effect on the economic and political situation in the country.

The NSG had, this year in Lagos, called for a national dialogue, describing it as panacea for the political crisis in the country.

Also, the spokesperson for the group, Mr Olawale Okunnyi, said all members of the steering committee had been notified of the meeting, disclosing that the group had met with members of the Arewa Consultative Forum.

Good move, but they should ensure adequate arrangements for security because such an assemblage will give Boko Haram more than a billion dollars worth of publicity if they are able to strike during any of the meetings. So let us be proactive in our thinking and planning. I wish them successful deliberations and I hope the powers that will be honest with themselves to apply their recommendations.

I support this move and idea. It appears that the Federal Government is incapacitated. FG is fearing some sacred cows alleged to be the baron behind the so called Boko Haram at the expense of innocent citizens. I wish to advise that this group exhibits no sentiment and undue emotion. They should sincerely proffer lasting solution to this myriad of security problems.

Those true enemies of one Nigeria, those responsible for all those daily mass assasination of christians and southerners in northern Nigeria, those in power but have chosen the path of politics-playing with national security instead of taking drastic and necessary actions to ensure orderliness and the security of all law-abiding Nigerians, must be told that the tolerance of all human-beings has a limit !

To achieve success in the deliberation by this group of concerned citizens, they need to be sincere to each other and be blunt to the point on how to be detribalized in all deliberations on how to address the security challenges that would go beyond Boko Haram and make room for a united country; where there would be no discrimination based on ethnicity or faith. We must allow room for every citizen to make any part of this country a home without segregation. Any deliberation based on dichotomy shall aggrievate the frigle unity already on ground. We must stop placing emphase on tribe and faith in considering people for employment or political representation. We should see ourselves as people of diversity from the same God only irrespective of our faith or tribe. We should learn how to be Nigerians not Yoruba, Ibo, Hausa or Minority, nor should we see each other as a northerner or southerner. It is only with this concept we can move on as a nation that can acchieve the MDG, or we would never meet up in our dream for 20-20-20, Goodluck!
