PANDEMONIUM broke out in Offa, Kwara State, on Monday, as the police in the town arrested a middle-aged woman, who was alleged to be a member of a kidnap syndicate that specialised in abducting school children in the town.

Nigerian Tribune gathered that the middle-aged woman was nabbed at Isale Ago area of Owode Market in the ancient town when she was discovered to have kidnapped a school girl.

It was learnt that the kidnap act angered the people of the town, mostly youth, as they descended on the suspect with intent to beat her. The situation that later turned unruly.

It was also gathered that the kidnap suspect, who was beaten blue anf black by angry mob could have been lynched if not for the intervention of some people who later took her to the palace of Olofa of Offa, Oba Mufutau Gbadamosi.

It was also learnt that the woman confessed to the people that she was from Ede and was based in Ilesa, Osun State where other members of the syndicate sold kidnapped victims for ritual purposes or sold abroad for whatever purposes.

Palace sources also told the Nigerian Tribune that the kidnap suspect was later handed over to the police area command in Omu Aran to take over the matter in view of the presence of protesters that had invaded the palace.

When contacted, the police public relations officer of the state command, DSP Olufemi Fabode said he was yet to be briefed of the development, adding that the matter was yet to get to the command's headquarters.
