The Peoples Party of Nigeria (PPN), Ogun State chapter, has faulted the Ogun State Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) on election guidelines for the July 21 local government election in the state.

The party in a statement signed by its state secretary, Deji Enisenyin, faulted the aspect of the election guidelines which directed voters to leave polling centres after casting their votes.

The party said the directive raised serious concern ahead of the election, insisting that the guidelines was designed by Governor Ibikunle Amosun to install his “handpicked” chairmanship and councillorship candidates on the 20 local government councils and 236 wards respectively in the state.

The statement read: “Already, the governor has imposed his own candidates on OGSIEC for ultimate imposition on the good people of the state, come July 21, 2012.

“This raises a serious concern to us ahead of the local government election.”

The party said that “Step IV of Section II of OGSIEC 2012 Local Government Election Guidelines of No 16 Vol. 37 of 19 April, 2012” could give room for electoral malpractices.

“This situation is to give room for electoral malpractices by a government that has diminished in stature over the last one year in office.”
