Enahoro’s group backs Oshiomhole.

THE political group of Chief Anthony Enahoro, the Movement for National Reformation (MNR), has thrown its weight behind the re-election bid of the incumbent governor of Edo State, Comrade Adams Oshiom-hole, urging Edo people to fully support the return of the governor to Osadebey House in July 14.

The pro-democracy group, in a communiqué issued at the end of its meeting in Benin City, noted that considering the performance by Oshiomhole, who, in three and a half years years, turned Benin City and other parts of Edo State around, it wished he was returned to the Government House to complete the work he started.

The movement urged all Oshiomhole’s followers and people of goodwill to vote for him, as a reward for hard work and competence.

The communiqué, signed by its acting administration secretary, Omonefe Okosun, said the meeting “reviewed that state of the nation and concluded that the democratic governance was facing severe stress all over the country.”

Group charges traditional rulers

THE Akoko-Edo Youths Vanguard (AYV) has appealed to the royal fathers in Edo State to be neutral in the forthcoming governorship election, scheduled to hold on July 14.

The group, speaking through its leader, Mr Kayode Alabi, said it had come to its notice that the alternative plan of a political party was to use royal fathers in the state to convince their subjects to vote for their party, just like what happened in the previous general election accross the state.

It appealed to all the political parties in Edo State to honour the royal stool by not bringing the traditional rulers into partisan politics, adding that candidates could, however, seek royal blessings.

Members of the group, who paid a visit to the royal father of Ugboshi-ele, Oba Timothy Otodo, while on a sensitisation campaign, also appealed to politicians to stop disturbing the royal fathers, adding that if they, alongside the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the security agents did not take side, the election would be peaceful.

Why we disqualified some election monitors —INEC

A national commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Ishmael Igbani, on Thursday, said some non-governmental organisations (NGOs) that applied for election monitoring in the July 14 Edo governorship election were disqualified because they did not meet up with INEC criteria.

Igbani, who is the chairman, Election Monitoring and Observation Committee, made this known to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.

He said the criteria included previous experience in similar exercise anywhere in the world or within Nigeria, registration of the NGO with the Cooperate Affairs Commission (CAC) and others.

Igbani said the application could be rejected if submitted after the deadline for submission or when submitted applications were incomplete, inaccurate or submitted by an ineligible body.

He said applications could also be rejected when the eligible body did not meet the conditions provided for in relevant INEC regulations, procedures or the code of conduct.

Igbani added that even after a body had been accredited, such accreditation could be revoked in the event that the accredited name was repeated in any of the accreditation list of observers or in the event if he/she failed to fulfil the conditions provided in the code of conduct.

“The Nigerian Bar Association, Transition Monitoring Group and more than 15 other non-governmental organisa-tions were accredited to monitor the election,” he said.

The commissioner said INEC had trained the supervisory presiding officers and other officers, adding that “we are going to perform another feat in Edo, but the rest is left for the politicians to perform their own part.”

Train two soldiers and two police and equipt them with Bullet proof .

In nigeria there is too much amunitions in circulations now . we suppose to train two soldiers and two police s wearing bullet proof having pistle and AK 47 to be place in each stations of election and each party should be able to prove to INEC that He has train his partymembers to be correct that ballot is for the interest of their children not for greedy politicians (like igbinedion) a disgrace to humanity.
