The Federal Government has been scored low in its efforts at ensuring peace in the northern part of Nigeria.

This was contained in the communique issued at the end of the first session of the fifth Synod of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Ibadan-South Diocese, held recently and presided over by the Right Reverend Jacob Ajetunmobi, at the St Luke’s Anglican Church, Molete, Ibadan.

While the efforts of the government at restoring peace had been described as not satisfactory, “the synod frowns at the level of corruption in the country, especially in the light of the pension scam, where billions of pension funds was looted by high-ranking government officials, as well as the subsidy removal probe panel scandal.

“The synod hopes that the altercation between the House of Representatives and the oil-marketers, in this regards, was not a ploy to distract the populace from pressuring the government to take necessary steps to further investigate and implement the findings of the probe panel, thereby, failing to bring the culprits to book,” the communique read.

The church, however, gave kudos to President Goodluck Jonathan, for his agriculture transformation agenda, describing agriculture as a veritable tool for the transformation of rural areas.

The synod thereafter identified with those who had lost their beloved ones in recent crises in the country.
