THE Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC), Professor Godswill Obioma, has said that there is currently a disconnect between the graduates of tertiary institutions in the country and the industry.

He, therefore, advocated the review of tertiary education, especially universities and polytechnics curricula in order to draw them closer to the industry.

Professor Obioma made this remark in Abuja at an interactive session with newsmen, stressing that there was the need to revise the tertiary education curriculum in such a manner that it would affect the society.

He added that even there were attempts to review the tertiary education curriculum, “there is a need to give that effect.”

He said: “There is disconnect between the training and the experience. We call it theory-practice gap. There is a need to bridge that gap first. I noticed that experience goes very fast and if care is not taken, the theory remains dormant because people are not upgrading themselves on the theory.”
