USA humiliates Ghana 4-0

GHANA'S Black Princesses suffered an opening day defeat to the United States in Group D of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup yesterday in Hiroshima.

A 4-0 scoreline leaves them with much work to do in their next group fixture against Germany on Thursday.

Ghana started strongly and had the first sight of goal only for Florence Dadson to be pushed off her stride by a desperate last-gasp Julie Johnston challenge.

USA, however, went ahead on the 20-minute mark, thanks to an element of luck. Direct from a corner, midfielder Morgan Brian powered an impressive header against the crossbar only for the ball to ricochet home off Ghana defender Linda Addai.

The US, two-time winners run down a hard-working Ghana side by a second-half treble from Maya Hayes.

Coach Robert Sackey will be hoping for an upturn in front of goal in the remaining matches as Ghana pushes for qualification from the group stages.
