Who are the Dprees?
My name is Ugoma Amiobi and my sister is Amu Amiobi, we are biological sisters and we are from Imo State.
What really motivated you into music?
Like we said, music is in our veins, our mother was a choir mistress and we were also among the church choir. During our ministration, we were able to touch a lot of people’s lives. From there, we thought we shouldn’t limit it to church alone because gospel is about spreading the word of God. Although, everybody has one or two stories to tell about Jesus Christ, but we want to inform people on how He touches our lives and what He means to us through our music and God has been extremely helpful in that regards.
So, music has been part of your childhood fantasies?
Definitely, music has always been our first love. If you ask her, she will say the same thing, we’ve always had passion for music and God has been wonderful in our lives.
Can you tell us your educational background?
I did my certificate programme at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), and I had a degree from the University of Calabar while my younger sister, Amu, is still an undergraduate at the University of Lagos. I studied Political Science and Amu is studying Business Administration.
So, none of you read music. Don’t you think there might be challenges since you have no academic background in the business?
As for us, music is life and we don’t think we must go to school to study music before we can do music. This educational qualification thing is just something that you must have as the basics. We don’t have to go to school to study music before we can do music.
How long would you say the group has been in existence?
The group has been in existence for almost four years now.
Can you tell us your marital status?
We are both single for now.
Why is this so, or do you think the relationship will affect your music career?
Definitely not. As for me, I’m engaged while my younger sister, Amu, is yet to round off her studies. So, getting married or going into relationship can’t affect our musical career in any way, but when the right time comes, we will definitely go into marriage institution.
Can you tell us some of the messages that you have for your fans this season?
Our fans should expect a lot from us. Last year, we released an album entitled “Mama Chineke.” Presently, we have two new singles that are making airwaves right now. They are, “Your Love” and “Udogu” and the response from our fans has been awesome.
Can you tell us the concept behind the Mama Chineke album?
Actually, the Mama Chineke album was composed and produced by our mother. She wrote the songs out of passion and the love that she has for Christ before she died of cancer. Initially, we wanted to do Hip-Hop, but she objected and said that we should go into contemporary gospel because she wanted us to sing to glorify the Lord.
Although, we produced some tracks in the album, but she did most of the tracks. So, the concept is basically the love of God in our life and the reason you must give Him all the glory. It is the inspiration behind our first album that influenced the second album which is the love of God over us.
Dprees is a group comprising two sisters who are gospel singers. The sisters, Ugoma, the elder and Amu, the last born of the family, have been singing right from their childhood days.
