National Telecom Operator, Globacom, on Thursday, March 11, lived up to its promise of making the 2009 edition of Glo-CAF awards a most spectacular event .

The awards ceremony, sponsored by Globacom since 2005 is held every year to reward Africa’s finest footballers, officials and administrators for their contribution to the development of the game.

The last edition, held at the State House Banquet Hall, Accra, Ghana turned out to be a most memorable and fun-filled event.

Besides, government and sports personalities  attended the event, while stars from the entertainment industry from across Africa that graced the occasion, added glamour to it.

While the celebration of  winners of the various award categories was the main event of the evening, it was accentuated by beautiful musical performances by the invited artistes, in what looked like a competition of sorts between countries.

The Ghana Youth Choir, Wanneba Wanneba, set the tone for the evening with a beautiful rendition of the country’s national anthem. This was followed with elating performances by Senegalese superstar, Ishmael Lo and South Africa’s song sisters, the Three Tons of Fun. The trio lived up to their name as they dished out loads of fun with one hit song after another.

Benin Republic’s Zaynab and Ghanaian artistes, Jadu Blay Ambolley, Sherifa, Kwabena Kwabena and Pat Thomas, also thrilled the audience with star performances in between breath-taking pyrotechnic displays. There was also energetic display by the Hey Band.

Particularly outstanding, however, were Nigeria’s P-Square, who flew the Nigerian flag very high and justified their rating as A-class artistes.

The audience applauded their electrifying dance steps. Every inch of their performance kept the audience cruising into a higher lyrical altitude. Their hit track, Do Me, was the crowd’s choice of the night.
