Members of the judiciary in Oyo State, on Friday, converged on the state High Court, Ibadan, for a special court session in honour of late Justice Karim Adewole Jimoh, a retired judge of the court, who died on December 7, 2011.

At the event, which was attended by members of the Justice Jimoh family and presided over by the state Chief Judge, Justice Badejoko Adeniji, several speakers, inclu-ding the state Attorney-General and Commis-sioner for Justice, Mr Ojo Adebayo, paid glowing tributes to the departed jurist and offered prayers for the repose of his soul.

In his speech, Adebayo said Justice Jimoh served the country in private and public capacities merito-riously until his retirement in November 2004.

The Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Ibadan branch, Mr Oluseun Abimbola, in his speech, described the late jurist as a firm judge with a thorough under-standing and apprecia-tion of legal issues.

“It is on occasions like this that the Bar has the privilege to publicly appreciate our judges and challenge them to continue to demonstrate even greater courage in their adherence to their judicial oath and responsibilities.

In a speech he delivered on behalf of the Senior Advocates of Nigeria, Mr. Lasun Sanusi (SAN), described late Justice Jimoh as a hardworking judge.

He described death as a necessary end and enjoined all to always remember the day of reckoning as no one would escape the consequences of his or her handiwork.

According to Sanusi, if the legal profession was to continue to enjoy and sustain the confidence of the populace, the members had a responsibility of salvaging the image of the profession which nobility, he said, was being constantly questioned.

He also called for the overhaul of the mode of appointment of judicial officers with a view to ensuring that only the best got to the Bench.
