A ten-member Ad-Hoc staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Imo State who were denied payment of their honoraria allowance for the April 2, 2011 National Assembly election in the state has petitioned the Chairman of the Commission, Professor Attahiru Jega over the non-payment of their allowances.

The petition, dated 16 January, 2012, which was made available to Saturday Tribune, read in part, “we wish to report to you sir, the refusal of the management of your commission in Imo State to pay us our honoraria, as was done in the other states of the federation.

“While we are aware that INEC has released the money for the purpose as reported by the media and the information, we gathered from our colleagues in other states that INEC paid the sum of N3.8 billion for this purpose, it is our wish to formally report to you that we are yet to receive our  money, and we don’t know what is going on,” the petitioners said.

Similarly, they said that all those that worked in the satellite or split units across the state throughout the period of the April elections are yet to be paid their allowances as was done in other places.
