DANA Crash: Association Defends Pilots, Engineers
THE National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers (NAAPE), on Friday, said it would not compromise safety of air travel under any circumstances.
Speaking through its president, Mr Isaac Balami, in a reaction to last Sunday’s crash of MD 83 aircraft belonging to DANA Air in Lagos, NAAPE noted that the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) regularly monitors the conducts of aircraft engineers and carry out unscheduled inspection of airline facilities.
Balami said: “NAAPE is not aware of any engineer that has compromised or being pressured to compromise. A station manager allegedly said that the plane was not serviceable. A station manager does not know anything about the technicalities of an aircraft. He is like a dispatch man.
“However, the unfortunate thing is that some airlines do not allow their staff to unionise and that include DANA Air. It’s unfortunate that DANA did not allow its staff to be unionized for political reasons, which made it very difficult for us to get information about their operations.
