THE fear of possible onslaught by the dreaded terror gang, Boko Haram, is taking its toll on the football-loving city of Kano as a top- of- the- bill Nigerian Premier League, NPL fixture between Kano Pillars and former Nigerian champion, Enyimba FC of Aba has been called off.

The NPL, yesterday explained that the decision was informed by security fears in the city of Kano.

Saturday Tribunesports reports that the Sani Abacha Stadium is one of the notable crowd-pulling centres as far as the League is concerned and as such, the NPL is not taking chances with the security report on its table.

Officials of the home team, Kano Pillars confirmed that they had been briefed of the development.

Idris Malikawa, the spokesman of Kano Pillars, agreed with the NPL that the postponement was in good faith and in the best interest of the players, officials, fans and facilities at the Abacha Stadium.

"It's unfortunate that the game had to be called off,'' said Malikawa in a statement issued yesterday. ''The situation on ground in Kano is responsible for this postponement because the lives of players, officials and fans are important and we and the league body had to take that into consideration here," he said.

The city of Kano last weekend witnessed sporadic bombings and gun attacks, leaving casualties of hundred in its trail.
