CHAIRMAN House of Representatives committee on sports, Honourable Godfrey Gaiya Ali has disagreed with the National Sports Commission (NSC) on its proposed N2.4 billion request for the London Olympics game.
Gaiya said the amount budgeted for the Olympics is not in the overall interest of sports development, while pointing out that his committee will deliberate on the matter and come out with the best decision in the interest of the nation.
“The truth is that spending N2.4billion on the forthcoming Olympics may not be in the best interest of sports in the country”
“The committee has decided to see how the funds available right now can be used to address the Olympics, sports federations, zonal offices and other areas monies should be allotted so that people can feel the impact”
The Sports ministry’s director-general, Patrick Ekeji, is still being investigated by the house committee on sports over the 2010 and 2011 budget appropriation.
