Again, OAU NASU creates scene

INEFFECTIVENESS of scene one of the protest of the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ife, Osun State not too long ago is what Wakabout will say, led to scene two recently.

The union, in the first scene, made use of masquerades and went spiritual, holding services in Christian and Islamic ways, to express their displeasure towards the school management over the non-payment of their two-step diferential salary and hazard allowances.

In this scene two, the union had started barring vehicles from entering the school premises, but allow the conduct of the ongoing examinations in the school.

One of the top officers of the union who spoke on the condition of anonymity, through telephone said the union will not relent until its request is granted.

“We were recently accused of planing to kidnap the Vice Chancellor of the institution. This is nothing but blackmail. Nevertheless, no blackmail or threat will stop us from fighting for our right,” the source said.

When contacted on phone, the public relations officer of the institution, Mr Abiodun Olanrewaju, confirmed the protest and disclosed the school management’s willingness to talk the issue out with the union in a round table.

He said: “The school management appeals to the union to come to a round table to discuss the issue. We believe we belong to the same family, and we should not allow money matters to pull us apart. The relationship between the school management, the students and the workers has been so fantastic. And this must continue to propel the actualisation of the goals of the institution.”
